The final score line ended as a draw on Bantry 12 points, Naomh Aban 1-9. The Blues recovered after a shaky start when they were 1-3 to 1 point down after 15 mins , but had drawn level by half time thanks to Damien O Neill who scored 4 points from full-forward and a point a piece from half-backs Niall and Graham Canty. The 2nd half was a tight affair where both teams could have won the match. The replay is on Saturday evening, 28th of April.
Saturday 7th April - Congratulations to Kevin Harrington on winning a Munster U-21 Medal when playing with the Cork U-21's in their victory over Tipperary. 2005 Season
Saturday, 24th of Sept: Bantry Senior Footballers took on Nemo Rangers in the Quarter Final of the Evening Echo County Ch'ship in Castlehave. The match was played in the worst possible conditions, with driving wind and rain dominating every passage of play. The Blues started well but were stung by 2 sloppy, but unfortunate goals in the 1st half. The Blues conceded soft frees which were punished by ace Nemo freetaker James Masters. The Blues replied with scores from Jimmy Griffin, Niall Canty and Philip Clifford. Half-time score was Bantry 0-4 to Nemo 2-5. The Blues never gave up and every players tried his hardest to ragain the lead. However Nemo found it easier to get scores. Bantry's best player was Niall Canty alond with his brother Graham, Damien O Neill, Jimmy Griffin, Mick Moran and Philip Clifford. Final Score: Bantry 1-5 to Nemos 3-10. Saturday, 6th of August: Bantry Senior Footballers demolished Douglas in this much anticipated replay. The Blues came out of the blocks from the throw-in and gave an awesome 1st half display where they lead on a score line of 0-9 to 0-0 with mighty performances from the full back line of Rory Hennessy, Kevin Harrington and Jimmmy Griffin, along with Graham Canty, Philip Clifford and Jeremy Canty. Even though Jimmy Griffin got sent off just before the ref threw the ball in for the 2nd half, the Blues still dominated and scored 1-2 within 10 minutes. Douglas got their 1st point on 53 minutes and also scored a consolation goal with the last kick of the game. Final score Bantry 1-10, Douglas 1-4. Sunday, 17th of July: Bantry Junior Footballers came very close to beating Muintir Bháire in the West Cork Junior Championship but lost by a single point in a fiercely contested local derby. Sunday, 10th of July: Cork Senior Footballers lost to Kerry in the Munster Senior Football Final by 3 points. Great displays were given by the 2 Bantry players, Graham Canty at full-back and Philip Clifford who was a 2nd half substitute. Tuesday, 5th of July: Bantry Junior Footballers drew with Dohenys in the West Cork Junior Championship. Saturday, 25th of June: Bantry Seniors travelled to Dunmanway to take on Douglas in the 2nd Round of the 2005 Senior Football Championship. The Blues started superbly, playing near-perfect 1st time football with Damien O Neill , Kevin Harrington, Philip Clifford and Jeremy Canty extremely influential on proceedings. Half Time score was 0-8 to 0-3. Immediately after the break Douglas got on top and scored 1-1 and eventually led going in to the final few minutes , when Bantry scored a very late equalising point. Both sides had chances to win , but overall a draw was a fair result. Friday, 17th of June: Bantry Senior Footballers re-captured the 2004 Liam Grainger Cup by defeating Dohenys by 2 goals. Sunday, 10th of April: Bantry Seniors travelled to Castlehaven to take on Clonakilty in the 1st Round of the 2005 Senior Football Championship. After an outstanding display of football by the Blues, they emerged as winners on a 0-12 to 0-10 scoreline. This was an outstanding result considering Bantry were minus several stalwarts such as Paul O Rourke, Mark O'Connor, Sean McCarthy, Andy O'Shea & Timmy O'Mahony, Gerdy Barry who have opted to play Junior foootball, while regular defenders Niall Canty & Kevin Harrington were on the injured list. Top performances came from Ted Hurley, Graham Canty, Aidan Mullins (on his debut), Donal McGrath (who kicked the winning point), Damien O Neill& Mick Moran (as usual), Philip Clifford , Dec Barron & team Captain Jeremy Canty. Click here for the match report from The Examiner Saturday, 12th of March: McCarthy Insurance Kelleher Shield: Bantry 2-06 Douglas 0-15 Saturday, 5th of March: McCarthy Insurance Kelleher Shield: Nemo Rangers 4-12 Bantry 0-05 Bantry were a pale shadow of the team that had the comprehensive defeat of Clon the week previously. Playing with a gale force wind in the 1st half, Nemo built attack after attack and were leading 3-7 to 0-2 points at the break. Team: Des McAuley, Brian Keohane, Kevin Harrington, Rory Hennessy, Niall Canty, Mark O Connor, Alex Hamilton; Richard Lynch & Mick Moran; Philip Clifford, Declan Barron, Donal O Shea; Padraig Sheehan, Jeremy Canty, Seamus O Donovan. Subs, Kenneth Deane, Donal McGrath, Mike Lynch, Saturday, 26th of February: McCarthy Insurance Kelleher Shield: Bantry 2-14 Clonakilty 1-09 Bantry Seniors took on their Championship opponents Clonakilty in the McCarthy Insurance Kelleher Shield. Minus a few of their established stars, they availed of some easy goals in the first half and then turned on a display of point kicking in the second period. Young Séamus O’Donovan seems to be a real find with some great scores, while Jeremy Canty, returned from injury, was in sparkling form while Mick Moran continued to turn back the years at midfield. Team: Des McAuley, Brian Keohane, Kevin Harrington, Jimmy Griffin;Rory Hennessy, Niall Canty, Donal McGrath ;Richard Lynch & Mick Moran; Alex Hamilton, Declan Barron, Donal O Shea; Padraig Sheehan, Jeremy Canty, Seamus O Donovan. 2004 Season Sunday, 19th of September: TSB Cork Senior Football Championship:Bantry Seniors 0-8 V. Clonakilty 0-10 at Dunmanway. After holding the majority of possession for the game, the Blues were killed off by 2 late Clon points. Bantry's inability to put the ball over the bar was highlighted by their 18 wides, some from easily scorable positions. Saturday, 4th of September:The Bantry Blues Golf Classic will be held this Saturday and is sponsored by Bantry Bay Seafoods Wednesday, 1st of September: Bantry Minors beat Inniscara in the County Minor Ch'ship on a scoreline of 3-9 to 2-9. Sunday, 29th of August: TSB Cork Senior Football Championship: Bantry Seniors 0-14 St. Nicks 0-9. The Bantry senior footballers defeated Saint Nick’s in round three of the SFC on Sunday last, in Ballineen. Several outstanding individual displays backboned a solid team effort that ensures the Blues will be out again against Clonakilty in a few weeks’ time. Bantry led at the break by 0-10 to 0-1 courtesy of scores by Phillip Clifford, Declan Barron, Donal O’Shea, Sean McCarthy and Richard Lynch. The second half was a more mundane affair, but the continued excellence of Mick Moran, Donal O’Shea, Jimmy Griffin and Richard Lynch helped Bantry record a five-point win, in a game where Bantry’s backs were solid and the forward line was razor-sharp. .Click here for match report by The Southern Star. Sunday, 4th of April: Bantry U-21 Replay V. Carbery Rangers at Aughaville. 3.30pm Throw-in. Check time before travelling. Tuesday, 30th of March: In a Challenge Match v. O'Donovan Rossa, the Bantry Blues Senior Team beat the locals of Skibbereen under lights on a scoreline of 0-19 to 1-10, to continue their excellent run of form. Sunday, 28th of March: Congratulations to Kevin Harrington, representing Bnatry Blues and St.Gobans Gollege, Bantry, who played a prominent role at full-back on the Cork Vocational Schools Team, that beat Kerry in the Munster Senior Vocational Schools Championship Saturday, 27th of March: The Bantry senior team defeated Carbery by 1-16 to 0-13pts in a challenge match at Wolfe Tone Park, on Saturday last. Starting with a strong fifteen, the Blues dominated the early exchanges with Donal McGrath, Damien O’Neill, Mark O’Connor and Mick Moran featuring prominently. The back seven dealt admirably with Carbery’s attacks whilst at the other end fine scores from McGrath, O’Neill, Finbarr Harrington and a goal from Jeremy Canty saw Bantry lead at the short whistle by1-12 to 0-5. A raft of substitutions understandably gave the initial impetus to the visitors who responded by gaining in prominence around the centre and kicking some fine points. Bantry went off the boil for spells but kicked a further four points to record a satisfactory victory. Team: D.McAuley, T.O’Mahony, C.Keohane, N.Twomey, M.O’Connor, A.O’Shea, J.Griffin, D.O’Neill, M.Moran, A.Hamilton, J.Canty, D.McGrath, F.Harrington, D.Barrron, P. O'Rourke. Subs used: A.Power, T.Hurley, M.Lynch, N.Canty, B.Keohane, R.Lynch, S.McCarthy, D.O’Shea, K.Collins, S.O’Donavan. The junior team were defeated at home by Carbery Rangers in the Junior League, on a score-line of 3-10 to 1-12 points. An exceptionally lethargic first half performance allowed the away side to coast into a 3-7 to 0-4 lead by the interval, but a battling second half effort saw Bantry outplay Rangers to restore some semblance of pride. Amongst the scorers were Seamus O’ Donovan, Alex Hamilton and Ross Leahy who chipped in with a goal. Thursday, 18th of March: In a low-scoring Challenge Match v. O'Donovan Rossa, the Bantry Blues Senior Team played out an 8-point a piece draw under lights, in preparation for the 1st Round of the Senior Championship game versus Ballincollig. The date for this is believed to be the 17th of April in Ballinacarriga, near Dunmanway.. Veteran Paul O'Rourke was also nominated as Captain for the forthcoming season. Sunday, 14th of March: Kelleher Shield: Bantry Senior V. Youghal. Throw in Bantry at 3.30pm. The senior team tasted defeat for the first time this season, losing by a point at home to Youghal. After a promising start to the Kelleher Shield consisting of two wins on the bounce, the Blues were given a glimpse of the work that still needs to be done, by a spirited away side. Team Team: Des McAuley,Timmy O Mahony, Mark O Connor, Ted Hurley ,Sean McCarthy ,Gerdy Barry, Rory Hennessey, Damien. O’ Neill, Graham Canty,Donal McGrath, Mick Moran, Paul O Rourke, Donal O’ Shea, Dec. Barron, Jimmy Griffin. Subs: M. Lynch, N. Canty,P. Cremin, Kevin Harrington, Saturday, 13th of March: Bantry Blues 0-11, Carbery Rangers 2-5. Despite leading for much of the second half, the U-21’s had to rely on a late Seamus O’ Donavan point to draw with Carbery Rangers in the quarter- finals of the SW championship. Rangers goaled as the second half faded to put themselves ahead by the minimum before O’ Donavan kicked his sixth point of the game. The Blues played well without ever really hitting top gear and were backboned by fine performances from Kevin Harrington and David Keohane at the back and the tireless efforts of captain Niall Canty and his cohorts around the centre of the field. The replay will be played on Sunday next at Aughaville. Team: A.Power, D.Keohane, C.Cronin, K.Deane, B.Keohane, K.Harrington, P.O’Shea, A.Hamilton, R.Leahy (0-1), M.Connolly, N.Canty (0-2), P.Sheehan (0-2), S.O’Donavan (0-6), C.McCarthy, D.Hurley. 12th of March - The underage award ceremony was held on Friday night at the Westlodge hotel. | Saturday, 6th of March: The
Bantry senior team continued their progress in the Kelleher Shield with
a hard fought victory away to Saint Finbarrs on Saturday last. The Barrs
were in good form of late and as expected, they provided a tough test for
the Blues. The visitors shook off a sluggish start and kept within touching
distance of their energetic hosts in the first half.
The second saw Bantry dominate the midfield exchanges and with the backs on top it was only a matter of time before the scores started to come. Several fine individual displays augmented a solid performance with Damien O’ Neill, Kevin Harrington and Jeremy Canty seldom far from the thick of the action. Final score: St. Finbarrs 0-11, Bantry 1-9. Team: A. Power, N. Twomey, K. Harrington, B. Keohane, N. Canty, J. Canty, M. Lynch, D. O’ Neill, G. Canty, S. McCarthy, A. Hamilton, D. McGrath, D. O’ Shea, D. Barron, F. Harrington. Subs: G. Barry, J. Griffin, R. Hennessey, S. O’ Donavan. |

Sunday, 29th of February: Bantry Blues got off to an encouraging start in their Kelleher Sheild campaign with a well deserved 1-18 to 0-9pt victory over Mallow. The Blues kicked some exceptional early scores against a determined away side with Damien O'Neill, Declan Barron and Philip Clifford playing prominent roles. Mallow fought back with some well pointed frees, but their inability to score from play coupled with Bantrys stranglehold on midfield meant that the home side emerged comfortable victors. Team: Team: Des McAuley, Ted Hurley, Colman Keohane, Timmy O Mahony, Niall Twomey, Andy O Shea, ,Rory Hennessey, Damien. O’ Neill, Graham Canty, S. McCarthy, Philip Clifford, Donal McGrath, Donal O’ Shea, Dec. Barron, Finbarr. Harrington. Subs: M. Lynch, , J. Griffin, S. O’ Donavan. B. Keohane, Mick Moran |

Bantry Blues and Irish Compromise Rules player, Graham Canty |
6th of July, Bantry Blues Senior Footballers were beaten by Cork Institute of Technology (C.I.T.) for a place in the quarter finals. This game was played in Ballineen. The Blues started very well and had three quick points on the board in the first five minutes and looked to be in complete charge. However, CIT began to get a grip and the scores started to flow. The Blues didn't score again for 19 minutes and a great save by the CIT goalkeeper didn't help the cause. The Blues play improved towards the end of the half and two points by Damien O'Neill had the teams level coming up to half-time, only for the College to tap on two points.
After the re-start, another point point by the students extended their lead, but a goal from a penalty by Declan Barron brought the sides level. A bad blunder by the Blues defence "gifted" CIT a goal to put them five points clear with time running out. Another goal from Declan Barron, this time from play, and a point from Sean McCarthy brought the Blues to within a point and a draw looked on the cards as Bantry pressed for the equaliser. However, the students finished strongly and had the last score - a point-to clinch victory. The final score was CIT: 1-13, Bantry Blues 2-8. Full a full match report by the Southern Star, click here.

They now advance to the last 16 of the competition. To read Aidan Power's excellent comment on this great win click here.

April 5th - U16 HURLING - Bantry U 16 hurlers got their league campaign off to a winning start at the expense of Barryroe in Wolfe Tone Park on Friday last. Bantry got off to a good start with two goals from full forward J. O’Sullivan, who scored four in all. Bantry were very strong down the middle and added another goal and some well-taken points against two goals for Barryroe. Half time score Bantry 3-4, Barryroe 2-0. The second half saw Bantry miss quite a few chances of goals, but continuous pressure enabled them to add 3-3. Even though they tried hard, Barryroe added only 1-1 to their tally. Bantry were deserving winners by 6-7 to 3-1. Man of the match was, undoubtedly, Bantry’s centre back, Kevin Harrington. His anticipation, long clearances and work rate set him apart from the rest. The youngest and newest member of the panel, John Connolly, came on as a sub in the second half and scored 1-1. The next game is at home against Kilmeen next Friday evening, 12th. Panel: D. Hurley, P. O’Leary, B. Keohane, G. Carroll, K. Mulcahy, capt., K. Harrington, M. O’Sullivan, K. Barrett, L. Lynch, S. O’Donovan, P. Skellacorn, D. Sheehan, J. O’Sullivan, A. Harrington, J. Connolly.
2002 Season
12th of December - Bantry Blues make up for the disappointment in the Championship by defeating Bishopstown to capture the Kelleher Shield for the 1st time since 1913. Click here for the match report.
6th of July - Na Pirasaigh caused a major upset by eliminating fancied Bantry from the SFC with a 1-9 to 0-11 victory at Ballineen. Setanta Ó h-Ailpín, the younger brother of Sean O´g, proved to be the star turn on the night, though he only started because wing forward Graham Casey had not fully recovered from a car accident earlier on Saturday. Despite a missed penalty from Philip Clifford, Bantry stil led at half time by 0-7 to 1-3 and when Moran and Clifford added two quick points on the resumption, few gave Na Piarsaigh a chance of advancing to the next round against Bishopstown. However Ó h-Ailpín kicked two great points from play and these scores, allied to two more from David Gardiner and Butterworth, had Na Piarsaigh back in front again with six minutes remaining. Bantry regrouped and, in the tension filled atmosphere, Graham Canty scored a marvellous equaliser only for Colin O’Sullivan to edge Piarsaigh ahead again from a free. Clifford hit a beauty from a free near the sideline in injury time to level once more and a draw looked likely until O’Sullivan and John Gardiner set up Ó h-Ailpín who soared majestically to fetch a great ball around the 20 metre line to score the winner.
16th of June - Cork draw with Kerry in the Munster Senior Football Championship semi-final. Graham Canty had a fine game at wing-back while Philip Clifford came on at half time and played his part. 13th of June - Bantry Blues Senior team have been drawn to play against Na Piarsaig for the 2nd time this year and the 6th time in 7 seasons. The game is to be played in Ballineen. All support welcomed. To see the full 3rd round draw click here.

12th November - U 16 HURLERS - Bantry Blues and Ardfield under 16 hurlers met in the West Cork league final last Sunday morning week in Dunmanway. Any thoughts Bantry held of winning this final were quickly dispelled by a skillful Ardfield side who scored on goal and two points without reply in the first ten minutes. Bantry were struggling in all departments from the start and a rampant Ardfield were ahead by 3-6 to 0-3 at half-time. Bantry made some radical team changes for the second half, but there was no holding Ardfield on this occasion. Final score: Ardfield 3-9, Bantry 0-3. Still, this team can be proud of their achievements over the year, reaching the finals of both league and championship. Even though they finished the year without a trophy, they treated us to some delightful hurling and were excellent ambassadors for the Bantry club. Panel: D. Hurley, B. Keohane, A. O’Sullivan, K. Mulcahy (capt.), K. Harrington, D. O’Connell, K. Barrett, J. P. Hickey, G. O’Donovan, S. O’Donovan, C. McCarthy, L. Lynch, J. O’Sullivan, D. Sheehan, P. O’Shea, N. Williams and P. Skellacorn.
