The Underage Club-1999.

UNDER-10 HURLING - Trained by Arthur Coakley and Kevin Barry.

The U-10 hurlers began training in the Boys Club in February. The indoor hurling proved very popular as kids who never showed any interest before in hurling  were attracted to the game. In June they took part in a blitz playing such clubs as Gabriel Og, St Colums and St. Mary's which ran over three Sundays. They didn't win many games but both the children and parents had wonderful fun.McCarthy Insurance's sponsored trophies and a wonderful night was had by all at the Westlodge Hotel. lndoor training will continue in October ,on Saturday mornings at 10 A.M.

UNDER-10 FOOTBALL - Trained by Debbie Delaney, Paddy Harrington and Henry Deane.

As of yet the under -10 footballers have not been beaten. They are into the League Final on a date yet to be fixed. They have played Skibbereen, Clonakilty, Dunmanway and have come out on top of every game.

UNDER-12 HURLING - Trained by Johnny O Sullivan and Ray Hennessy.

The u-12 hurlers got off to a very weak start because the majority of hurlers were under -10's so they didn't have much off a hop[e playing against the likes of Dunmanway and Clonakilty who seem to have an excellent underage hurling set-up.However if the same attention could be given to the  young Bantry hurlers in the next few years then we could be just as good. The children are very interested but it's the adults who are not doing their duty.Anyone interested in helping out should contact any committee member of the club. Help would be greatly appreciated as these kids deserve it.

UNDER 12 FOOTBALL - Trained by Henry Deane, Eddie Mullins, Timmy O Mahony and Jeremy Canty.

This under 12 team has great potential and it isn't from the lack of coaching that this team didn't win any trophy this year. Henry Deane in particular has put a huge amount of effort into this team and a trophy would be as sweet for Henry as much as any of the players. They played in the League in early summer and were as good as the other teams involved. Numbers seem to be a major factor in this age group as again, like in the hurling, a large percentage of the players are from the under -10 age bracket. On one evening playing Dunmanway we had six under-10 players playing to make up a team, while Dunmanway had forty players without ever touching their u-10 players.    They reached the Final in the Championship but were defeated by Clonakilty.

UNDER 14 HURLING - Trained by Brian Harrington and Tony O Donovan.

Most of this team were playing together since u-12 where they won the West Cork Final last year. They seem to be a very united team and try as a unit to achieve success. They will be competing in the Championships on dates yet to be fixed.

UNDER 14 FOOTBALL - Trained by Ray Hennessy.

The under 14 footballers did exceptionally well in the league beating Clonakilty , Castlehaven and Skibbereen.

They entered the championship with high hopes but when they travelled to Ballydehob to take on Skibbereen in the semi-final they were beaten by five points .There are some gifted players on this  and I think a red and white jersey would look very nice on their back's in a few years time.

UNDER-16 FOOTBALLERS - Trained by Paddy Clifford.

This team played well in the league but were eventually defeated. Their championship won't start until September for a date yet to be fixed for which they have high hopes.
